# Ultrajaya Milk Industry: A Legacy of Innovation in Packaged Beverages
## A Journey from Household Venture to Industry Leader
Origins and Evolution
What began in 1958 as a modest household industry has blossomed into Ultrajaya Milk Industry & Trading Company Tbk, formally established as a limited liability company in 1971. Headquartered in Padalarang, West Bandung Regency, West Java, at Jl. Raya Cimareme 131, Padalarang, Bandung Regency, this enterprise holds the distinction of being Indonesia's trailblazer in packaged beverage manufacturing. From its humble beginnings in a Bandung house on Jl. Tamblong Dalam, initially focusing solely on milk production, the company rapidly advanced, eventually acquiring some of the most sophisticated beverage processing machinery across Southeast Asia.
Over the years, Ultrajaya strategically diversified its product portfolio to include popular offerings such as Buavita juices, Teh Kotak (packaged tea), Sari Asem Asli (tamarind drink), and Sari Kacang Ijo (mung bean drink). A pivotal strategic decision in 2008 saw the divestment of the Buavita and Gogo brands to Unilever Indonesia, allowing Ultrajaya to sharpen its focus and reaffirm its commitment to its core dairy business.
Visionary Leadership and Strategic Growth
Founded by the enterprising Ahmad Prawirawidjaja, a Chinese entrepreneur who settled in Bandung, Ultrajaya's leadership has seen a seamless generational transition. The company is currently steered by the second generation, Sabana Prawirawidjaja, with preparations underway for the third generation, Samudera Prawirawidjaja, to continue this enduring legacy of growth and innovation.
## Driving Operational Excellence with Advanced Technology
Evolution of Integrated Systems
Ultrajaya’s commitment to operational efficiency is underscored by its early adoption of advanced IT systems. Since 2002, the company has leveraged a fully integrated computerized system, SAP, and was even recognized as a successful reference for implementing nearly all SAP modules. However, in response to evolving business complexities and strategic considerations, Ultrajaya undertook another significant technological leap in 2012. The company transitioned its core systems to Oracle EBS R.12, achieving remarkable integration with their Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) robots—a significant milestone in the industry. This successful Oracle project now serves as a foundational benchmark for implementations across Ultrajaya’s various subsidiary companies, ensuring consistent technological advancement.
